How to choose a skincare manufacturer in China: a 2026 buyer’s checklist

Licence, unit scope, stability data, documentation and audit access — the five things that separate a real factory from a trading desk.

Most sourcing mistakes are made before the first sample. Buyers compare price per unit and leave the licence, the manufacturing scope and the documentation to the end — which is exactly where a trading company can look like a factory.

1. Check the licence number, not the brochure

A Chinese cosmetics production licence lists the units a plant is allowed to run. Ask for the licence number and compare it with the categories you are buying. A factory licensed for creams should not be quoting you a shampoo without a hair-care unit on the licence.

2. Ask for stability data before the price

For Gulf and Southeast Asian markets, a 45°C accelerated test matters more than a nice-looking sample. Ask how many months of stability data exist, whether compatibility with your chosen pack was tested, and what happens to viscosity and colour over shelf life.

3. Confirm who prepares the export file

MSDS, COA, TDS, full ingredient breakdown and free-sale support letters should be standard, not a favour. Registration in your market stays with your local entity, but the technical file comes from the factory.
